I learned a lot about bees. I learned that bees dislike carbon dioxide, they prepare for evacuation ( in case of fire ) and that they don't like the smell of bananas, leather, or perfume. I had one question though how does the smoke work in calming the bees down.
I love your blog title.
ReplyDeleteIt is thought that smoke calms them by:
1) interrupting their ability to smell alarm pheromones
2)Making them think there is a fire so that they eat up honey in case they need to move the hive. This makes them groggy, and also makes them so fat that they have trouble bending their abdomen to sting.
Personally, I'm more inclined to believe the first.
